Nitrogen content and C/N ratio in straw are the key to affect biological nitrogen fixation in a paddy field

چکیده

Straw amendment can increase nitrogen fixation in paddy field, however, the efficiency of carbon sources with different biochemical properties to enhance N2 and activity is still unclear. A 15N2-labelling system was used field environment determine biological (BNF) under addition three kinds straw. The nifH gene (DNA) RNA (cDNA) soil were amplified by real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR. diversity community composition fixing microorganisms studied high-throughput sequencing. study expected reveal how impact its mechanism system. Results showed that absolute abundance diazotrophs treatment mature stage wheat straw (MWS) 4.88 times as high CK treatment, but jointing (JWS) poplar branch (PB) did not induce any significant changes. had no on cyanobacteria abundance. proportion increased MWS 2.07 times, which much lower than heterotrophic diazotrophs, leading a decrease diazotrophic activity. Mature biologically fixed increasing number bacteria. results indicated system, straws low content C/N ratio recommended.

The organisms and biological processes involved in asymbiotic nitrogen fixation in waterlogged soil amended with straw.

The acetylene reduction assay was used to determine nitrogenase activity in a waterlogged soil-straw system. Nitrogenase activity was related to the number of nitrogen-fixing clostridia. The patterns of respiration, microbial numbers, and nitrogenase activity indicated a change in the microbial activity at about the 8th day of incubation. This was attributed to the sequential use of the differe...

Biological nitrogen fixation, 1924-1974.

Crop rotation was practiced in ancient times by alternating the use of leguminous and nonleguminous plants. The basis for the benefit derived from this practice was not understood, but it was observed empirically that crops were improved and the condition of the soil was maintained better with rotation than by continual cropping with nonleguminous plants. Rotation was recognized as good husband...

“Biological Nitrogen Fixation” Book Summary

Biological nitrogen fixation is a very valuable alternative to nitrogen fertilizer. This process will be discussed in the “Biological Nitrogen Fixation” book. A wide array of free-living and associative nitrogen fixing organisms (diazotrophs) will be covered. The most extensively studied and applied example of biological nitrogen fixation is the symbiotic interaction between nitrogen fixing “rh...

Mechanism of Biological Nitrogen Fixation

Recently Phelps and Wilson (1) reported the occurrence of hydrogenase, the enzyme which activates molecular hydrogen, in nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Because HZ specifically inhibits nitrogen fixation by red clover plants inoculated with Rhizobium trijolii as well as by Azotobacter (2,3), possession of hydrogenase by these organisms may be more than merely fortuitous. The possibility must be consi...
